Shop Cake by Courtney

Welcome to CakebyCourtney.com, home of my recipes, tips and tricks to making the best tasting and best looking cakes, right from the comfort of your own home!

As many of you know, I’ve been mastering my cake craft for the last 9 years. And for over three years, I’ve been teaching private cake baking and decorating classes  in my home, at Orson Gygi in Salt Lake City, Utah, on Youtube, television and in conferences around the country.  Now, I’m coming to your kitchen!

That’s right, your kitchen! YOU are my inspiration for launching Cake by Courtney Product Line and Courtney’s Cake Club subscription boxes. It may be a long time coming before you can join me in Salt Lake for a class at Orson Gygi, but I can join you right now, at your house, at your convenience!

It’s been months in the making and I’m so excited to finally share it with you. We’re starting with my acrylic cake disk set and my cake box subscriptions, but will be adding so much more in the new year!

I’m talking all about the disk set and the subscription boxes below. Take a look and join me at Shop.CakebyCourtney.com for the big day.

Acrylic Disks

If you’ve been following me for a while, you know my love for the acrylic disk. This round piece of acrylic may not look like much, but it’s a true game changer when trying to create straight sides and a sharp edge with buttercream on your cake.

After crumb coating your cake, freeze the cake for 10 minutes. After it’s chilled, you’ll place the acrylic disk right on top. Center it the best you can, and always get eye level to make sure it lays evenly on the cake.

You’ll then add a layer of frosting around the cake and the acrylic disk (about a quarter inch), and smooth the sides with a cake scraper.

Once you’ve smooth the sides, freeze the cake for another 20 minutes. At this point the frosting is cold enough to cut the board off the frosting to reveal a nice sharp edge. You’ll then want to fill the top with frosting.

Here’s a look at those same steps.

Alright! There you have it! The start of Shop Cake by Courtney. Hope to see you over there soon.

xo,

Courtney

I’m a self-taught baker, obsessed with cake.

I long ago ditched box mixes in pursuit of melt-in-your-mouth, to-die-for flavor combinations, fillings and textures. I believe cake must be decadent, life-changing and worthy of celebration! And I believe anyone should be able to bake that kind of cake – and I’m here to teach you just that!

  1. Hi there we loved our January GF cake is there a way to see what the February cake will be?
    Ours shipped today.
    Thanks

  2. I squealed when I got to the gluten free box option!!!! I’m SO EXCITED!!! This is amazing for the allergy community! Just a question, will these be safe for people with celiacs? I want to try this so bad, but I need to make sure I don’t get any cross contamination! Also, your gluten free chocolate cake is life changing!! It was so nice to eat such a yummy cake after years of dreaming! Thanks Courtney!

    1. Hi Crystal! We package the gluten free flour separately from the regular flour, but it’s done in the same facility. If there’s a severe gluten allergy, I would not use the box. I’m sorry! But I’m so glad you like my GF recipes!!!
