A LOOK INSIDE THE HEART OF OUR HOME: PART 2

April 18, 2019

I’m back with another inside scoop! Here’s a look inside the heart of our home: part 2! I didn’t quite get to everything in that last post and want to show you a few more favorite areas in this baking happy place of mine.

Finished Spaces

As I’ve been working on decorating the spaces in our home, my friend Jennifer Stagg from Stagg Design gave me the best piece of advice. She said, “finish one room 100% before moving on to the next room.” A common mistake people make when decorating their house, she says, is that they only finish a room about 80% of the way and it never feels complete.

It was such an “ah-ha” moment for me! Of course, that’s why I’ve never been totally satisfied with any of the spaces in our previous homes. I never once completely finished a room. So right then and there, I decided I would focus solely on one room at a time as I designed and decorated each space. Obviously, finishing the kitchen was first on my list.

Geeta (aka Natasha Richardson)

After some initial decorating, one of the major components lacking in my kitchen and dining area were window treatments. The space around my windows looked bare, cold and definitely unfinished. While trying to figure out what to do in these areas, my best friends introduced me to Geeta (pictured above), from Uptown Drapes. (Yes, she’s Natasha Richardson’s (circa Parent Trap) twin).

Geeta is the queen of window treatments, and the more research I did on her, the more I realized I wasn’t the only one who thought this. Geeta’s work has been featured all over Utah, in Parade of Homes, in Studio McGee homes, and many many more gorgeous locations. Her work truly speaks for itself, and after taking a look at it, I was ready to get to work.

As Geeta and I got to work, I was amazed at her knowledge and passion for window treatments. I told her about my style and what I envisioned and she quickly brought it to life. Like my best friend told me about Geeta, I wanted to tell the world about her too! She made everything so easy!

Uptown Drapes

While working together, Geeta started to tell me about an awesome idea she had in the works for a new, DIY window treatment website. Basically, Geeta hand selected and narrowed down all the best fabrics and rods and put them all in one place for you: UptownDrapes.com. Not only that, but her new website walks you through how to measure, design and pick out custom window treatments for your home. It’s basically like having Geeta doing it for you, but without having to pay for her flights 😉

Anyway, I’m so happy with how it all came together in this space and I couldn’t have done it without Geeta!

To celebrate the launch of her new site, Geeta is giving you 10% off your purchase with code CAKEBYC10 and 5 free fabric swatches with 5SWATCH

And I can’t finish this post on a look inside the heart of our home part 2 without a look at where I keep most of my 50+ cake stands. Yup! The collection is just over 50 now – and there’s no sign of stopping!

  4. Hi Courtney. I fell in love with your kitchen while watching your cooking class. I’m in the process of remodeling my kitchen right now and I was wondering if you would share the color of your cabinets. You inspired me to have open shelving in my kitchen. I’m a little frightened but everybody said they love the idea so we will see how it goes. Thanks for sharing your beautiful kitchen and thank you for your amazing cake classes.

    1. I hope you love it! I’m sure it will be beautiful!
