Cake March Madness 2023

You know my love of cake runs deep, but did you also know my love of basketball does too? Last year I decided to pair the two together and create a Cake March Madness Bracket. My Better Than Anything Cake came out the winner in 2022! Now it’s time for the 2nd Annual Cake March Madness.

How to Play

  • Download the bracket below.
  • Look through each division and pick a winner from each pairing. You’ll then move those winners to the next round and pick a winner from that pairing. Keep going until you have a champion.
  • You’ll fill out the entire bracket – GUESSING which cake will win each pairing and which cake you think will win overall.
  • Once you make your guess for the winning cake, COMMENT BELOW WITH YOUR WINNER. This gives us a time stamp to make sure you entered before the competition starts on March 13th.

How It Works

  • Starting next week, I’ll post the cake pairings in my Instagram stories for everyone to vote on.
  • Winning cakes will be chosen from that voting process (BY YOU) and I’ll announce in IG stories and here on the blog the updates so you can make sure to check out how you’re doing on your bracket.
  • Once we get to the final winner, I’ll take a look at your guesses below and from those who guessed correctly, I’ll RANDOMLY SELECT ONE WINNER.

What Does the Winner Get?

  • The randomly selected winner will receive my cookbook, access to my new cake camp, and some of my cake tools from

  • Print the bracket
  • Make your selections
  • Comment below with what you cake you think will be the overall winner
  • Check out stories next week to start the voting process
  • Have fun!

I’m a self-taught baker, obsessed with cake.

I long ago ditched box mixes in pursuit of melt-in-your-mouth, to-die-for flavor combinations, fillings and textures. I believe cake must be decadent, life-changing and worthy of celebration! And I believe anyone should be able to bake that kind of cake – and I’m here to teach you just that!

  1. In the finale for me it was Better Than Anything Cake v. Oatmeal Biscoff Cake and ultimately I chose Oatmeal Biscoff Cake as my choice for the winner. Although I know I will second guess my choice everyday because a part of me feels I should have chose the Banana Carmel Biscoff lol!

  2. Better Than Anything!
I know it won last year so I probably should pick something else, but staying true to the bracket that’s what I chose!

  3. So fun!!! I wish I had the time to make them all and do a taste test the duration of the competition. I’m going with Tonight Show Cake as the winner 🤞

  4. COOKIES & CREAM! Just made for my birthday for first time. Was amazing! Was a tough choice but I think it’ll come out on top!

  5. My guess for this year is Definitely
Olive Oil Ricotta W/Strawberry Cake (heart) (heart) (heart)

  6. Funny enough I have Twix & (Snickers) Candy Bar in the Final Four with Biscoff Brownie (MY WINNER) and the Apple Cider Donut, which is one of my favorites to make and share with others. The BTA is great, but put it against Twix and it’s a hard one!

BISCOFF BROWNIE FTW!! Who can resist a brownie and Biscoff marriage?!

  7. The Tonight Show cake!

Of course there’s a difference between which I think will win and which I want to win 🙂

  8. UItimate Smores Cake!

And now I have a handy PDF for people to pick their birthday cakes from! 🙂

  9. Peanut butter with chocolate buttercream. Apparently this is my husband’s birthday cake choice this year! After reading the bracket, now I want cake!

  10. It was a hard choice between over all Grasshopper Pie Cake and Gingerbread Pear Cake. I love anything everything mint but. . . The Gingerbread Pear Cake I made for church everyone loved and wanted more even those who said they were on a diet. I had enough pear jam to make another cake for my sister’s event and everyone raved about that one too. I still had jam enough for a smaller cake for my daughter before finally using up all the jam on toast with cream cheese.

  11. Update to my earlier comment, the husband and kids votes are in 😉

Husband – Triple Chocolate Banana Cake
    9 y/o – Strawberry Lemonade Cake
    7 y/o – Hot Chocolate Cake

  12. Ultimate Smores Cake. Westin wants a chocolate cake for his birthday so hoping he will get his wish!

  13. Today is March 9, 2023 and we did the Cake Championship bracket at work. Our champion Cake by Courtney cake is….. PINA COLADA CAKE.

    Happy March Madness Cake wars!!

    We love cake,
    LeeAnn Cross

  14. Ultimate S’mores is the winner for me! As much as I wanted Cookies and Cream (my favorite), I went with Ultimate S’mores.

  15. My daughter, Emily, & I both did a bracket and came up w/ the same winning cake at the end….Our vote is for The Tonight Show Cake!

  16. Biscoff Brownie Cake is the winner of my bracket!

This experience proves I need to make and taste more cakes before next years bracket!

  17. Seven Layer Bar Cake wins mine! Really can’t turn down something with coconut and butterscotch. 😍

  18. I had a rough time deciding between my final four, so I asked my 5-year-old for help. She picked Peanut Butter with Chocolate Buttercream, so that’s what I’m going with.

  19. Ultimate S’mores Cake 😊 but geez that was hard.. came down to 2 S’mores cakes in the finals 🤣

  20. Ended up with Ultimate Smores Cake as the winner. Up against Peach Biscoff. Which to be clear, is what I think the people will vote as the winner. I love them all… BUT people really sleep on the Blueberry Delight, Lemon Bar, Olive Oil Ricotta, Creme Brulee, Classic Chocolate, and Apple Cider Donut. Don’t ever make me choose!!

  21. Ultimate Smores Cake! And my husband is invested in it too haha. He has Better Than Anything Cake going the whole way 🙂

  22. My final four are Twix, Peanut Butter Oreo, crème brûlée, lemon blueberry. Championship is between PB Oreo and Lemon Blueberry. Winner is PB Oreo.

  23. I pick Ultimate S’more’s cake but if that was upset by the underdog Olive Oil Ricotta with Strawberry I would not be sad.

  24. Chocolate with Peanut Butter Buttercream with Lemon Blueberry as a close second. So close they almost tied.

  25. It’s down to the ultimate s’mores or tonight show cake for me. Aah! I’m going to go with my personal favorite, the TONIGHT SHOW CAKE for the win!

  26. Chocolate finalist: better than anything cake
Peanut butter finalist: chocolate banana peanut butter cake
    Biscoff/Graham finalist: 7 layer cake
    Fruit/other finalist: lemon bar cake

Cake champion: better than anything cake
